Before you start

Have the device's address and the port its admin interface answers on, plus an admin username and password. The port field defaults to 80 for devices reached over HTTP, but use whatever the device actually listens on — 37777 on a Dahua recorder, 34567 on a Xiongmai one.

Find the device

Type the LAN IP and port, or let Scan IP and Scan CCTV find it. The sheet shows your current WAN IP so you can fill that field with one tap.

Enter the login and start

Give the wizard the camera's own username and password and it does the rest. If a step fails it reports which one, so you know whether the problem is the credentials, the port or the network.

Auto Setup talks to the device directly, so in practice you run it with your phone on the same network as the camera. Working remotely is only possible if the device's port is already open. Managing hostnames and watching IP changes works from anywhere either way.

Check for CGNAT before you configure anything

Carrier-Grade NAT is the one thing no amount of camera configuration can fix. When your ISP puts you behind CGNAT you do not have a real public IP, so connections coming in from the internet are blocked.

Be clear about what DDNS can and cannot do here: Dynamic DNS does not get you past CGNAT. It keeps a hostname pointed at your public IP as that IP changes, but it cannot create a public IP you were never given.

The CGNAT Checker in the app tells you which situation you are in and runs a NAT loopback test at the same time. If it reports CGNAT, the fix is with your ISP: ask for a public IP address, which many offer as a paid option.

The other half of the same problem is port forwarding. Even with a real public IP you still need the relevant ports open on the router — 554 for RTSP, 37777 for Dahua — because DDNS only solves the changing-address half. Test a port from your browser

Routers, firewalls and everything else

Cameras are not the only thing on a job. Under DDNS Configuration, every hostname screen carries ready-made parameter blocks you can open and copy on the spot.

The values that replace another provider's endpoint, which is usually all a Hikvision or Dahua recorder needs.

Frequently asked questions

Is the FastDDNS app free?

Yes. The free plan includes one permanent hostname renewed annually, unlimited 30-day temporary hostnames, the Auto Setup wizard, IP monitoring and every network tool, with no credit card required. Paid plans start at $20 a year for more hostnames that stay active for as long as the plan is valid.

Do I need a static IP to use FastDDNS?

No. FastDDNS updates your hostname automatically whenever your ISP changes your IP address, usually within 60 seconds. That is exactly what Dynamic DNS is for.

Which camera brands support automatic setup?

The Auto Setup wizard covers Dahua, IMOU, Hikvision, EZVIZ, HiLook and XM/Xiongmai, including generic recorders that use port 34567. Tiandy is selectable in the brand picker, and anything else falls back to the guided manual steps.

Does the app work if my ISP uses CGNAT?

No. Behind Carrier-Grade NAT you have no real public IP, so inbound connections are blocked and Dynamic DNS cannot change that. The CGNAT Checker in the app confirms whether this is your situation; the remedy is to ask your ISP for a public IP address.

Does Auto Setup work over mobile data?

Normally no. Auto Setup connects to the camera directly, so on a job you run it with your phone on the same WiFi as the device. You can point it at a WAN IP instead, but only if that port is already reachable from the internet. Once the device is configured, managing hostnames and watching IP changes works from anywhere.

Can I use the app with routers and firewalls?

Yes. Each hostname screen carries ready-made parameter blocks you can copy into MikroTik RouterOS, DrayTek Vigor, pfSense, the Windows update client or a Linux cron job. The update endpoint is DynDNS-compatible, so any device that can make an HTTP request will work.

Do I still need to forward ports?

Yes, for anything you want to reach from the internet. DDNS only keeps the hostname pointed at your changing IP address; the router still has to let the traffic through. The one exception is Dahua Auto Register, where the device opens the connection outward instead.

Can I use one account on both Android and iOS?

Yes. Your account and hostnames are the same on every device you sign in on, and on the website as well.

Can I rename a hostname later?

No. A hostname keeps the name it was created with. If you need a different name, create a new hostname and point the device at it.

Do I need a laptop to configure cameras?

No. The whole flow runs on the phone. Auto Setup reaches the camera or recorder over the local WiFi network, so you can finish an installation on site without carrying a laptop up a ladder.

How do I get told when my IP changes?

Turn on the IP change notification switch on the hostname you care about, and the app pushes an alert when the address changes. Check that notifications are also allowed for the app in your phone's system settings.

How is this different from a web-only DDNS service?

Most DDNS providers give you a web portal and leave every device to you. This app connects to cameras over the LAN and writes their configuration itself, hands you copy-ready parameter blocks for routers and servers, and adds push notifications, IP history, port checking, CGNAT detection and network diagnostics in the same place.
